The Teamsters Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee volunteered at the 2017 Wounded Warrior Games in Chicago, June 30 through July 8.

The Department of Defense Wounded Warrior Games is more than a week-long paralympic sporting event during which wounded, ill or injured service members from all military branches compete. The competition-which includes sports such as archery, wheelchair basketball, track and more-empowers the audience to know that life continues after injuries or illnesses.

“The Warrior Games were a lot of fun,” said Lisa Beecher, Teamsters Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee President. “It was a great turnout and the cause aligns with the Women’s Committee’s effort to support our often-forgotten veterans.”

This year’s competition set a new attendance record with 20,866 spectators attending the opening ceremony at Soldier Field on July 1. Athletes won 1,101 medals for more than 90 events. This was the first year the event was held at a non-military base.
