The Teamsters Joint Council No. 25 Political Department addressed the importance of voting in midterm elections at the Joint Council No. 25 Women’s Committee First Quarter Membership Meeting on January 27.

The presentation focused on an overview of this year’s midterm elections in Illinois and why these election results matter.

“It is crucial that we all vote for labor-friendly candidates to change the face of Congress, Senate and governorships,” said Terrence J. Hancock, President of Teamsters Joint Council No. 25. “We must promote progressive candidates who support the preservation of health care, food stamps, Medicare and Social Security, and vote against big tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.”  -Terrence J. Hancock, President of Teamsters Joint Council No. 25

A labor-friendly Congress would halt the passage of bills that negatively affect workers and their families and ensure the next round of redistricting (the redrawing of political districts) meets the needs of citizens equally. Progressive leadership would execute direct power over President Trump’s cabinet choices and, specifically in Illinois, stop Governor Bruce Rauner’s efforts to roll back the gains the Labor Movement has won over the last 70 years.
