Future Teamsters Want Affordable Health Care, Retirement Security
Drivers at XPO Logistics in Elgin filed to officially join Teamsters Local 330 on March 22, marking the latest action by workers across the U.S. to band together to fight for fair treatment at one of the largest transportation and logistics companies in the world.
The drivers at the former Con-way Freight are planning to join the freight drivers in Aurora who formed their union with Teamsters Local 179 last year. In addition, the dockworkers at XPO in Aurora filed for their Teamster election with Local 179 on March 21.
Thirty-three drivers at XPO in Trenton, N.J. filed for their Teamsters election on March 15. All of these drivers are joining the Teamsters ranks alongside workers in Miami; Laredo, Texas; Vernon, Calif.; North Haven, Conn.; and King of Prussia, Pa. who have already unionized as Teamsters.
So far, nearly 500 XPO workers have voted to become Teamsters.
“With the Trenton, N.J. drivers and the Aurora dockworkers filing over the past several days, and now the drivers in Elgin, our campaign at XPO is gaining momentum every day,” said Ernie Soehl, Director of the Teamsters National Freight Division. “Across the country, XPO workers are standing up for a more secure future.”
“The drivers in Elgin want to join their co-workers in Aurora who have already taken action and formed their union as Teamsters,” said Dominic Romanazzi, President of Local 330 and Chairman of Teamsters Joint Council 25’s Teamsters Volunteers in Politics political action committee. “The workers want a more secure future, better and more affordable health care and retirement security.”
Port, freight and warehouse workers at XPO are coming together across the country in their fight for a more secure future.
Teamsters Local 330 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.
