On Saturday, February 24, Teamster Brothers and Sisters participated in the Working People’s Day of Action in downtown Chicago in an effort to push back against corporate greed and the politicians that clear the way for the wealthy to prosper off the backs of hard working people.
The march and rally was conducted just days before the United States Supreme Court was scheduled to hear arguments in Janus v. AFSCME – a case that could impact the ability of public sector unions to collect fair-share fees and undercut the strength of the labor movement. The Janus case, which is supported by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and the Trump administration, is the latest attack by powerful corporate interests and politicians to erode the rights and freedoms of the working class.
“Janus is a blatant, premeditated attempt to slash and destroy workers’ rights throughout our country. We must join together to protect the rights we currently have, fight for the ones we have yet to achieve and forge a robust middle class in the process.” -Terrence J. Hancock, President of Teamsters Joint Council No. 25

Many labor unions and pro-worker organizations were in attendance for the Working People’s Day of Action, which also took place in several other cities across the country.
