Teamsters Joint Council No. 25 President and Local No. 731 President Terrence J. Hancock has been appointed to serve on the Board of the Chicago & Cook County Building and Construction Trades Council. The Chicago & Cook County Building & Construction Trades Council is a central body AFL-CIO labor organization and an affiliate of the North America’s Building Trades Unions. The Council represents approximately 100,000 working men and women from 24 affiliated organizations in the union construction trades for the Chicago & Cook County area.
“It’s an honor to be selected to serve on the Chicago & Cook County Building & Construction Trades Council’s Executive Board. I’ve worked alongside many of my fellow board members for decades, and know we will continue to fulfill the Council’s mission to support and protect the hard-working rank-and-file Union Members who built Chicago into the magnificent city it is today,” Hancock said.
Hancock has been involved in the construction industry for over four decades, beginning his career as a Rank-and-File Semi-Dump, Tractor/Trailer Chauffeur in 1979. In his 40-year career as a member of Teamsters Local No. 731, Hancock has served as Business Agent, Secretary Treasurer, and since 2005, President. He was appointed to serve on the Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council No. 25. in 2008, and has served as President since 2017. In 1999, Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa appointed Hancock to the International Headquarters Construction Division located in Washington, D.C. In addition to his Teamster positions, Hancock serves on the Executive Board of the Chicago Federation of Labor and the Italian American Labor Council. Hancock will become the first Teamster ever appointed to the Council in its entire history.
“Terry has been a prominent leader in Chicago’s labor community for decades and was selected because of his outstanding reputation among his peers. We’re excited to have him on the board,” said Building Trades Council President Ralph Affrunti.
The Chicago & Cook County Building and Construction Trades Council’s goal is to promote harmony and good will among the affiliated trades and organizations in the building and construction industry in Chicago and Cook County, to promote the unionized sector of the construction industry and to endeavor to organize the unorganized sector. The Council also works as a representative on behalf of its affiliates to enhance the position of organized labor, serving the building trades in particular, and its issues in business, government and education.
