Local 710 Members at ReaderLink Host Fundraiser, Wear Pink in Solidarity
Members of Teamsters Local 710 working at ReaderLink came together in solidarity on March 16 to support Teamster sisters Maria Barraza and Glenda McDonald, who were both recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
To show their support, Chicago Teamsters wore pink to work and decked out the cafeteria to match. They also brought food to share and organized a fundraiser to help with any upcoming expenses.
“This group is one that is always ready to come together, no matter what,” said Local 710 Business Agent Mike Ramirez. “It was wonderful to see so much support for Maria and Glenda, and we are praying for easy treatment and recovery for both of them.”
According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that more than 250,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with new cases of invasive breast cancer this year, making it the second most commonly diagnosed after skin cancer. Thanks to continuing research and advances in detection and treatment, there are more than 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.
