On Nov. 18, 2017, Dominic Romanazzi, President of Teamsters Local 330, received the 2017 prestigious “Man of the Year” Award at the Italian American Executives of Transportation’s 45th Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner Dance.
During the ceremony, Romanazzi was lauded as a champion of the Labor Movement, ever vigilant in representing the working family.
“Dominic has always been a tireless union leader…His accomplishments are proof of Teamster collective power.” -Terrence J. Hancock, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25
Romanazzi became a Teamster in 1986 when he started working for the Illinois State Tollway Authority. He subsequently became a member of Teamsters Local 330 in 1989 when he began working for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Early in his union career, Romanazzi started a statewide Teamster campaign advocating for the passage of a law which increased the pension formula for IDOT and Illinois Tollway workers from 1.67 to 2.5. This is one of Romanazzi’s major accomplishments highlighted at the event.
As President of Local 330, which represents over 2000 members in many different industries, Romanazzi is involved in virtually all major contract negotiations. This year alone, he was the chief negotiator of 15 new collective bargaining agreements. He also currently participates in several other labor related organizations focused on bolstering the rights and well-being of union members.
“Dominic has always been a tireless union leader,” said Terrence J. Hancock, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25 and President of Teamsters Local 731. “His accomplishments are proof of Teamster collective power.”
For the event, Romanazzi raised a record gross amount of $124,000. “I was honored to raise funds for such a fine organization that assists the community in countless ways and awards scholarships to those worthy and in need,” said Romanazzi, who is also the Chairman of Teamsters Volunteers in Politics, the political action committee of Joint Council 25. “This could only have happened with the tremendous support that I received from our great union.”
Twenty-three scholarships were awarded, including the Teamsters Joint Council 25 Educational Scholarship to Jack Glimco, who is attending the University of Iowa and pursuing a career in Physical Therapy.
The celebration concluded when Wayne Buback, an active board member and Vice-Chairman of IAET, received the 2017 Humanitarian Award.
